The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) has published a number of codes of practice for the application of structural fire protection products. To aid the evaluation of proprietary fire protection of structural steelwork to comply with Building Regulations for England and Wales, the ASFP has released the fifth edition of its Yellow Book, Fire Protection for Structural Steel in Buildings. One of the strengths of the National Structural Steelwork Specification for Building Construction (NSSS) since its inception is its dual format of printed ‘Black Book’ plus specially written ‘Project Specification’, the latter providing the vehicle for project-specific requirements as well as the contract- .

This highly illustrated manual provides practical guidance on structural steelwork detailing. Examples of structures include single and multi-storey buildings, towers and bridges. The detailing shown will be suitable in principle for fabrication and erection in many countries, and . The principal objectives of the Association are to promote the use of structural steelwork, to assist specifiers and clients, to ensure that the capacities and activities of the industry are widely understood. The procedure for determining the fire protection requirements for structural steelwork is straightforward, but there are three distinct stages: 1.

Determine the fire resistance period through Approved Documents1, BS or specific sector requirements 2.

Determine the section factor for the structural steelwork that is to be used 3. Standard methods used to apply paints to structural steelwork include application by brush, roller, conventional air spray and airless spray/electrostatic airless spray.

Airless spray has become the most commonly used method of applying paint coatings to structural steelwork. the Protection of Structural Steelwork This is an update of a DTI publication first issued in The new version has been prepared by Dr.

Structural detailing in steel A comparative study of British, European and American codes and practices This book should serve both as a primer for trainee detailers and as a Part 8 Code of practice for design of the protection for structural steelwork.

Until the late s, concrete was by far the most common form of fire protection for structural steelwork. However the introduction of lightweight, proprietary systems such as boards, sprays and thin film intumescent coatings has seen a dramatic reduction in its use.

Nevertheless, concrete encasement has its place and it continues to have a small percentage of the fire protection market with other traditional methods such as blockwork. This section contains steel encasement systems that provide up to minutes of fire protection to structural steel columns and minutes for structural steel beams and joists.

This authoritative Guide will inform engineering and architectural designers on atmospheric corrosion protection for structural steelwork, on achieving the design life of the asset and on gaining an understanding of AS/NZSParts 1 and 2, Marine and Offshore Corrosion describes the principles of effective corrosion control treatments in marine environments, with emphasis on economic solutions to corrosion.

The book explains chemical or electrochemical reaction of an alloy with its environment leading to corrosion, and mechanical loss of the metal by erosion, abrasion, or wear. This manual covers the design of structural steelwork elements in a logical, step-by-step fashion. The text is backed up by numerous illustrations, design charts and tables, and refers throughout to the relevant codes of practice.
